"Monte do Cerro"

The site of Tamera is called "Monte do Cerro". It has 331 acres and is situated in the Alentejo region of Portugal, one of the least densely populated regions of Europe. The shape of the site resembles a landing eagle, for this reason it has become our logo. The site has many ponds and some fresh water springs, eucalyptus forests and cork oaks, gardens, and meadows. The summers are usually dry and hot, winter is rainy season, although the climate changes and there were some droughts in the last years.

The land still suffers from the destruction of the forests and other agricultural maltreatment in the whole region during the last decades. It is our challenge to make Monte do Cerro into a natural paradise again. Tamera has a good relationship with its neighbours, as the Alentejanos are hospitable and friendly people. The land and its inhabitants have gone through large changes in the last decades - dictatorship, suppression, even starvation, a non-violent revolution, integration in the EU, and now the immense impulse of globalisation. Many see Tamera as a chance and a model for a different life.
