European Solidarity Corps – Volunteering Projects
Our “Associação G.R.A.C.E.” (Grupo para a Reconciliação em Áreas de Crise e Educação) is an NGOD-accredited organization that runs projects in cooperation with Erasmus+ Volunteering and the European Solidarity Corps (ESC). This means we offer EU citizens between 18 and 30 years old the possibility to volunteer in Tamera for up to 12 months.
What’s the ESC?
The aim of the European Solidarity Corps is to support young people as they participate in voluntary or work activities that benefit the communities and people around Europe. Individually, or in groups, these young people can volunteer for various non-profit organizations.
The ESC registry number for the G.R.A.C.E. Association is: PIC 906314845.
From April 2019 to April 2020 we’re hosting 3 volunteers under the “Terra Nova” project. Reference: 2018-1-PT02-ESC11-005578.
The European database on registered organizations of the ESC says about us:
“G.R.A.C.E. Association, Portuguese NGO, operates in a project named Tamera, in the South of Portugal, which is a private international education and Peace Research Centre, with the aim of building peace research villages in Europe and worldwide. Themed “think globally, act locally”, the goal of G.R.A.C.E./Tamera is to construct an exemplary pilot model for non-violent co-habitation amongst human beings as well as between people and nature.
Approximately 170 people live, work and study here together in an intentional community, having as the main principles: 1) Mutual support; 2) Transparency in actions and intentions and 3) Responsible participation in the community. Additionally, there are regularly about 50 volunteers helping within Tamera. G.R.A.C.E. work focuses on the education of young people in peace knowledge, the building of exemplary self-sufficient and sustainable living models, as well as global networking with environmental and peace groups and activism all over the planet. The NGO’s main activities are the transfer, exchange and dissemination of the knowledge researched and found, as well as the development of social skills that enable human beings to live together in Peace through specific Education and practical application in the daily life. G.R.A.C.E. projects are the “Escola da Esperança”, the “Global Campus” and “Defend the Sacred Activism”. These areas of research address the main issues of the contemporary society, in the social, the political and the ecological aspects of cooperation with nature (landscape design and food production in non-invasive way).
Tamera receives regular contributions from more than 400 people within the EU and more than 500 in neighbouring and partner-countries of the EU. Voluntary work as a foundation of the community spreads out the communitarian idea into the world.
All departments are in regular contact with the mayor of the county, the schools and universities of the region and a network of regional volunteers. The members of the Association are participating actively in the local community life by organizing regular cultural activities in the nearest village of Relíquias and occasionally in the county seat of Odemira as well as holding events for the region on its premises.”
