Introduction and Gardening
Get to know how we live at Tamera through practical work and acquire basic knowledge of different aspects of growing organic food and seeds. We invite you to work with us as gardeners, farmers and stewards of the Earth, supporting its healing by cooperating with the beings of nature. As a volunteer, you will learn about community building, experience a variety of organic agriculture techniques and gain insights into our progress towards regional autonomy. As in an Introduction Week, we will also offer you an insight into the Healing Biotopes Plan and the different areas of our work – from community building to spirituality, from technology to sexuality and love.
“Our food and seed gardens and reforestation project are elements of our strategy to promote regional food autonomy for a culture of peace. As we grow our food, we don't exploit but enhance the soil's vitality. Our vision is that biotopes of abundance will arise all over the world, nourishing the biosphere and all of humankind.”
Tamera's ecology team
You'll work in smaller teams in the food and seed gardens and – in fall – in our reforestation project within the Water Retention Landscape. You'll also learn about community building and other aspects of our work. By signing up, you commit to the full length of the program and should be physically able to work.
Each morning (Monday–Saturday) we will work in the gardens: seeding, planting, weeding, taking care of beds, harvesting and eventually processing seeds. We will start at 7 or 8am, according to the season, and will work for around 4 hours including a break for breakfast. 2 or 3 times a week we will also work in the afternoon for another hour and a half, using the beautiful cool hours for planting new seedlings. In the early afternoon (or late morning, according to the season) we will meet with members of the community to learn about the basic thoughts of Tamera and about different aspects of the project. There will also be space for participants to share their experiences and get to know each other on a deeper level.
Saturday afternoon and all of Sunday will be free. On Saturday afternoons there will be an opportunity to take a tour of Tamera. On Sunday you are invited to join the community in our Matinee at 10am.
Joerg Matthes, Uri Ayalon, Lilian von Wussow, Robert Wiener, Dennis Krueger, Ethan Hirsch-Tauber, Thomas Preisser and others, and different community members as group leaders and guides into other aspects of Tamera.
