Future Directions
We’ve gone a long way since we founded our solar Test Field in 2009 and have reached a natural point to pause. The original group has changed, children have been born and raised. The project founders have moved to eldership.
We’ve been through a lot, learned a lot, and now it’s time to tell the story. Time to celebrate, time to grieve, time to reflect, review, and tend to impacts. What we’ve accomplished and what we’ve lost in these years, depends on how it lands in the hearts of all involved. And what we do next will be formed in this process.
This Year
Our intention for 2026 is that we listen to each others’ stories. Wherever we need to renovate, or take down, a physical structure, we intend to take the time to recall our history, to see through each others’ eyes, appreciate and document the multiple layers of embodied experience. The process will undoubtedly develop. We will start where we are and go as far as we can.
We have a clear perception that the vision for the Solar Test Field will develop through and out of the work of storytelling. Where we go from here depends on what we have learned, and what we discern is now ours to do in these times. Project initiation is inherently exciting and easily accessible. Deconstructing, composting and renewal work is hard, but treasures are buried there. We need to take the time to do that work.
We continue to use and appreciate our incredible Solar Kitchen which has been running since the Solar Test Field was founded.
Vision
We are holding the germinating seeds of vision close to our heart. Please come into contact with us if you would like to understand more or to contribute.
“…our ancestors lived with an awareness that food produced by the Earth contains light and they understood that their development into Runa (authentic human beings) depended on making sure that they possessed the greatest content of light possible inside their bodies.”

Some principles seem to us to be self evident, such as:
- Our work should be regionally relevant – locally adapted or adaptable and applicable.
- Open-source and collaborative
- Divesting from systemic violence
- Preserving and regenerating ecosystems
- Responsible participation in the web of life
