Reweaving Culture: Building Youth Work Resilience in Times of Social and Ecological Crisis

How do we continue to work with young people in a time of ecological breakdown, social fragmentation, rising authoritarianism and deep uncertainty about the future? This 10-day Erasmus+ training brings together youth workers, educators, community organisers, activists and facilitators from Europe, Palestine, Egypt and Brazil for a collective exploration of these questions.

Overview

Building on the learnings of our previous training, Resilience in Times of Collapse, this year’s course focuses on the regeneration of culture itself: the values, relationships, narratives and social practices that shape how we live together and respond to crisis. Throughout the training, participants will engage with practical methodologies developed through Tamera’s decades-long experience as a living laboratory for social and ecological regeneration, while also learning from the diverse experiences and knowledge brought by participants from different cultural and geopolitical contexts.

Together, we will explore questions such as:

• How do power, privilege and post-colonial legacies shape our communities and our youth work?
• What helps communities remain resilient in times of crisis and uncertainty?
• How can we strengthen our capacity for dialogue across difference and conflict?
• What practices support trust, cooperation and collective wellbeing?
• How can youth workers become multipliers of regenerative cultural practices in their local contexts?

Who is the course for?

This course is for youth workers, educators, community organisers, facilitators, activists, artists, social practitioners and others working with young people who wish to deepen their capacity to respond to the challenges of our time. We especially welcome participants who are interested in questions of social transformation, ecological regeneration, community resilience, intercultural dialogue and systemic change.
A central aspect of this year’s training is the encounter between participants from different cultural, social and geopolitical realities. Alongside participants from Europe, we are collaborating with partners from Palestine, Egypt and Brazil, whose lived experiences offer essential perspectives on resilience, community-building and social transformation in contexts of ongoing crisis and systemic inequality.
Participants are selected through Erasmus+ partner organisations and cooperation partners connected to Tamera’s international network. We’ve also been fundraising for youth workers from Tamera’s partner community in Brazil. We are still hopeful to reach the fundraising goals. • Community Sharing Circles and Forum practices for building trust, transparency and authentic dialogue.
• Theatre exercises and methods inspired by Theatre of the Oppressed.
• Seminars, presentations and facilitated discussions on systemic crises, power, privilege, post-colonial legacies and cultural regeneration.
• Practices for trauma awareness, somatic self- and co-regulation, embodiment and community care.
• Small-group learning and peer exchange.
• Ecological learning experiences, including visits to Tamera’s Water Retention Landscape and regenerative land-based systems.
• Time in nature and practices that deepen connection with the more-than-human world inspired by the Work that Reconnects.
• Reflection spaces for integrating personal and collective learning.
• Intercultural exchange and mutual learning between participants from diverse backgrounds and contexts.
