Tamera Asks for your Support

From Financial Crisis to New Structures of Trust – After 30 years of pioneering work for peace, Tamera has reached a turning point

By Sabine Lichtenfels, Helena Lüdert, Annelies Dille, and a dedicated team of new community members on behalf of the Tamera Community, 08/07/2026

Dear friends,

For 30 years, Tamera has demonstrated that another way of living is possible. Today, we are entering a new chapter in which the structures that have carried us this far are no longer sufficient for what Tamera is called to become in the future. At the same time, we are facing a serious financial challenge.

Over the next 18 months, we aim to raise €1.8 million to enable a profound and multifaceted transformation process – one that will equip us to meet the ecological, economic, and emotional challenges of our time.

Help make Tamera’s next chapter possible.

In a world marked by war, ecological destruction, loneliness, and growing uncertainty, places where people can experience solidarity, protection, cooperation, and a living relationship with the Earth are more important than ever.

Despite all the challenges, Tamera remains a living experiment in creating peace – with the Earth, with one another, and within ourselves. It is also a place of refuge and inspiration for peace workers and activists from around the world.

Over the past five years, the Tamera community has undergone a profound transformation. We have developed new forms of shared responsibility and decision-making, worked through challenges from our past, learned from our mistakes, and strengthened our alignment with the vision that guides our work.

Like many organizations, we are feeling the impact of global crises: rising costs, economic uncertainty, and declining income from visitors. At the same time, it has become clear that the financial and organizational structures that sustained Tamera during its pioneering years are no longer adequate for the responsibilities and scope of our work today.

That is why we are fundamentally redesigning our economic foundation. Together, we are developing strategies for long-term financial sustainability that are aligned with our values as a peace research center. This process requires time, care, and collective decision-making.

To make this transition possible over the next 18 months and secure Tamera’s future, we are raising €1.8 million.

Your support will strengthen three essential areas of our future development:

Keeping the Heart Beating:
To build sustainable economic structures, we first need the breathing space to do so. This initial funding phase will cover our most essential operating costs and create the capacity we need for careful planning, implementation, and collaboration with experienced professionals.

Where your gift goes? Monthly 18 Months
Food and daily nourishment €25,000 €450,000
Infrastructure upkeep and unexpected costs €10,000 €180,000
External experts and specialist support €15,000 €270,000
Solidarity fund for members €4,000 €72,000

Building the future – Changing our physical Structures:
After years of preparation, we have finally received approval for the new land-use designation of our site – a major milestone. We will now transform our legal structure into a cooperative – the Tamera Cooperative – creating the legal and organizational foundation on which Tamera’s next chapter can grow.

Where your gift goes? Monthly 18 Months
Legal work to “unlock” the land (PIER completion) €15,000 €270,000
Setting up the Cooperative (new legal structure) €1,000 €18,000

Honouring our supporters and members:

Your support helps us repay long-standing loans from friends and supporters while providing basic income for community members – honouring those who have carried Tamera this far and creating the stability to carry its vision forward.

Support Our Regional Learning Project

Help sustain the Escola da Esperança

For more than ten years, our learning project has provided over 80 children from Tamera and the surrounding region with a vibrant and nurturing place to learn and grow. Alongside academic learning, the Escola da Esperança is a space for friendship, creativity, curiosity, and a deep connection with nature. A special focus lies on social learning. Children develop the ability to work collaboratively, resolve conflicts constructively, and meet others with openness and respect. They cultivate cultural awareness, an interest in the wider world, and the confidence that they can make a meaningful contribution to the world.

To ensure that Escola da Esperança can continue its work securely through August 2027, we aim to raise €160,000 – approximately €11,000 per month.

You can support the project here.

A Gift of Gratitude for Our Donors

“Listening to the Voice of the Earth” – An Online Course with Sabine Lichtenfels

As an expression of our gratitude, we offer our donors a selection of online learning modules with Sabine Lichtenfels, according to the size of their contribution.

This year-long online course invites participants to cultivate a deeper relationship with the wisdom of the Earth. Together, we explore Earth Stewardship as a path that weaves together spiritual practice, ecological awareness, peace knowledge, personal transformation, and meaningful action in everyday life. The course follows the rhythm of the seasons and the 13 Moons.

The Stone Circle in Tamera serves as a living point of orientation, helping us reconnect with the unity of life, deepen our perception, and strengthen our capacity to act in service of the Earth.
